The past couple of days I’ve seen some posts that are almost surely the result of the Secret Aardvark / Dirty Dick’s echo chamber that exists both here and over at /r/hotsauce.
Now don’t get me wrong, everyone has to start somewhere and I love SA and (to a lesser extent) DDs. But after seeing posts and recommendations for the two ad nauseam, it got me thinking about what sauces might be *juuust* a bit overhyped.
Personally, I think that [Palo Altos](https://heathotsauce.com/collections/vendors?q=Palo%20Alto%20Firefighters) insanely overrated. I know, I know. Probably not the most popular opinion considering that the sales from their hot sauce do [support a great cause](http://www.paloaltofirefighters.org/our-charitable-giving.html).
But if you subjected me to a blind taste test, I’m not sure that I’d be able to distinguish their habanero sauce from Jack in the Box taco sauce. And the “ghost pepper” sauce is equally underwhelming in terms of heat and its likeness to a sauce you’d expect to find a restaurant salsa bar.
So what sauce have you guys tried that didn’t live up to your expectations?
